Garden Elementary School students support their community in many ways. Click on the titles below to learn more about their service projects.
Coins for Caring
Garden Gophers have a yearly coin drive to support Tulare’s Light House Rescue Mission. Each year we raise several hundred dollars to donate to the outreach needs of women in our community.
Family Fun Color Run
In 2014, we celebrated our staff members who are survivors of cancer by holding a benefit color run for participants from kindergarten to adult. Vendors such as Tulare Community Health Center, Tulare Police Department, Tulare Regional Medical Center, George the Giraffe from Valley Children’s Hospital, and many more organizations had booths to help promote the event. The color run helped sponsor the members of our Relay for Life team. The event raised over $3,100 and had over 240 participants. The next color run is already in the works, and we expect it to be even bigger than before.
Relay for Life
For several years, Garden School has put together a team for Tulare’s large Relay for Life event each October. Staff members help raise money and participate in the 24-hour walk at Bob Mathias Stadium. In addition, students from sixth grade and student council help with the event by filling and organizing luminary bags for the luminary ceremony at the event. Garden School students have been an important part of the yearly Relay for Life event.
Soda Pop Tops
Student council led the school in collecting pull-tabs off cans to benefit Valley Children’s Hospital. Kindergarten through sixth grade helps collect thousands of pop tops each year. Their efforts help families of patients at Valley Children’s Hospital with housing costs while children are going through medical treatment.
United for Good
In November, Garden School teamed up with elementary schools throughout the city of Tulare to gather donation supplies for American soldiers. Students brought donations of socks, toothbrushes, and toothpaste to send overseas.
